About Me and My Childcare:
My name is Katrina Taylor and I have been a childcare provider in the Portland area since 2001. In the Lents neighborhood since 2004. I have been doing some form of childcare for over 30 years.
My husband is Chris. We have been married since 1993. He is a Medical Assistant in a Portland Medical Office and usually works during the day, though you will see him from time to time. We are parents to 2 boys. Both adults now. My oldest still lives at home. He has severe ADHD and mild autism. If he isn’t at work, he is at home on his computer as he is an avid gamer! My youngest is married and works at an elementary school with his wife. They are both awesome kids and have grown up with a childcare in the house. Mom and childcare go hand in hand as far they are concerned. I chose the childcare field long before I had kids and was married. I have always loved kids and started babysitting as soon as I could. By age 10 I was a regular for many neighbors to rely on. I raised my niece for the first 2 years of her life before I got married and had children of my own. I provided childcare for many families at the Air Force bases we were stationed at early in our marriage. Upon moving to Portland in 2001, it was a natural choice to open a small childcare so that I could provide this service to other families. Over the years, I have become specialized in special needs children and provide a niche that is hard to find. I pride myself on my childcare kids and sending them off to start Kindergarten 100% prepared. I believe as a parent, preschool teacher and childcare provider that children need lots of love, gentle guidance and most of all… FUN! Here at Hippie Chick I try to provide all 3 in a small group, low stress but high quality family childcare. I have excellent references to prove it. |
While in my care your child will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities, which promotes all aspects of development. Family childcare provides for children the comfort and experience of belonging to an extended family. I provide a home-like setting and while we have a schedule we have flexibility in our routine. My approach to childcare is child centered and child directed. Children are offered choices whenever possible. We do a combination of hands-on learning, worksheets, and games. Just because you are not seeing your child bring home papers constantly does not mean they are not learning or being busy all day. Talk to them, they will tell you all about their HCC adventures! FYI: HCC is a PET-FRIENDLY home. Various reptiles, cats, dogs, chickens, ducks and even a mini-pig. Children in my care get to learn and assist with aspects of keeping and caring for pets. All safety measures are done to ensure they are safe while doing so. No child is put in an unsafe situation. |
Whether hunting for pirate treasure, observing baby birds grow up or figuring out how to drive a boat... fun and learning is always happening at HCC!
